Augmented Reality (AR)

🧪 AR Use Cases for Signage

In this video, I’ll show you three real-world AR use cases for signage using NearSolid:

  • A wall-mounted logo sign (Adidas style)
  • A solid storefront sign with depth (like Pull & Bear)
  • Freestanding cut-out letters made from polystyrene or foam

To review a design in Augmented Reality from a phone, open a shared link or use local review when the computer and phone are on the same Wi-Fi network. The latter does not require uploading the project to a cloud service and is view-only.

Note: For very large 3D models, placement or tracking accuracy in AR may slightly decrease. This is normal in WebAR experiences and can often be improved by reducing the model’s size or complexity. It’s also recommended to avoid highly reflective surfaces or very low lighting conditions. AR relies on visual cues to position models accurately, so especially on Android, completely smooth or textureless walls may make detection more difficult.

WebAR on Android: Requirements and Considerations

While NearSolid delivers a smooth Augmented Reality (AR) experience on iPhones, performance and accuracy on Android devices can vary depending on the specific hardware and software configuration. Android currently has some limitations when placing models in real environments, but we’re closely monitoring upcoming improvements to WebAR support on Android.

ARCore: The Key to AR on Android

The core technology that enables AR on Android is called ARCore. Developed by Google, ARCore allows devices to understand their environment and place virtual objects accurately.

Device Compatibility

Not all Android devices are compatible with ARCore. To check if your device is compatible, you can consult Google's official list of supported devices:

Additional Considerations

  • Depth Sensors: Some Android devices have depth sensors that enhance AR accuracy. If your device has a depth sensor, NearSolid can provide an even more immersive AR experience.
  • Performance: AR performance can vary depending on the device's capabilities. Devices with more powerful processors and more RAM will offer smoother performance.

In summary:

  • To enjoy the best WebAR experience with NearSolid on Android, ensure your device is ARCore compatible.
  • Check Google's list of supported devices to confirm compatibility.
  • Keep in mind that AR performance can vary based on your device's hardware capabilities.
